The picture I am using is from my February 2015 trip to the Amazon Basin. The forest in this photograph is a remnant within the city of Manaus, the Bosque da Ciência, maintained as an educational facility by the National Institute of Fishes of the Amazon (INPA). I use it for two reasons. First, the educational mission of the facility combined with its accessibility to the urban population of Manaus reminds me of our need to provide all learners with the opportunity to experience forest landscapes. Second, the path through the forest was just one of many trails that a visitor can walk among exhibits (although I admit they did discourage off-path travel).
